Tourney Auto-detect

Postby PJs Ronin » Sat Aug 13, 2011 11:52 pm

Appears all screwed up on Pokerstars. Why would PT3 ever think a 3 table SnG was an MTT? meh

A 3-table tournament is an MTT. :D

In that case we have no need for tags other than STT and MTT.

All tournaments types start with either STT or MTT, but have further tags. A 3 table SNG would be labelled "MTT (3 Table) SNG".
You can then filter by any combination of "MTT", "3 table" or "SNG" - see the Tutorial: Tournament Auto Detection for more information on how the system works.

No offence, but I do understand (but don't necessarily agree with) the tourney nomenclature. My beef is that tourney detect doesn't get it right for a simple 3 table standard speed FR NLHE SnG. What could be simpler?

It depends on what information is available. The hand histories don't tend to have much information about the tournament structure or number of entrants so we have to infer the type from other information such as starting stacks and time between limit increases, etc. Sites change structures from time to time too, which means that the rules need to be updated.

The HH and TS show 9 seats to a table and 27 entrants. I thought PT3 could take a wild assed pluck and say "27 is a multiple of 9, therefore.....", but perhaps it's easier to just say "it's not an STT therefore it must be an MTT".

Indeed it should, although 27 players doesn't guarantee that it is a 27 player SNG (it could be a scheduled tournament entered by 27 players). I will check with the development team what should happen in this case, but if you could attach an example hand history and summary to a Support ticket we'll get it into our system to make sure it is addressed. Thanks.

This is pretty much how we do it. We see there is more than 1 table so thus it must be an MTT.

This is for Pokerstars, a pretty big site, so if number of entrants = 27 (hell, if number of entrants <100) the odds are good that it is not an MTT. I'll pass on sending HH/TS as I'm not sure the devs are focusing on PT3 anymore.

Edit: Ticket #111937 is already in the system and refers to another matter, but it does contain HH and TS for a standard 3 table Pokerstars SnG.

I was hoping that you might have followed the lead of the world's largest poker site, Pokerstars, who seperate SnGs from MTTs.
