PT3 for mac memory issue

Hi Guys,

Have been using the mac version since released, but have noticed that it consumes a HUGE amount of RAM. When I mean huge I am talking about over 1GB of RAM. This causes huge slowdowns on my mac, and constant spinning beachballs. It occurs when I have more than 2 tables running, on average I have 6-8 and my system can't handle it. I didn't use it as much on windows so I have nothing to compare it too.

I wanted to know if this is normal and what I should accept, or is it some kind of memory leak that everyone is experiencing? I am running a 13" Unibody macbook (2008) with 2GB of RAM, and a 2 GHz processor. I am running the latest version of PT3 for mac. Any help would be appreciated...thanks

This happens on some Mac systems, but we don't know why yet. We've only had one other user report it so far. Could you report the problem and include any information about software installed on your Mac that might be relevant? It does use more memory than the PC version, but on my MBP it stabilizes at about 100mb.

Ok well I will submit a report later on today, after I have played another session. That way I can take a screenshot of activity monitor, and send a log of my system page outs. I am running snow leopard, so I dont know if that maybe an issue? Mine certainly doesn't stabilise at 100MB, last night it was upto 1.4GB!! As you can imagine, on a system with only 2GB of RAM its a real struggle!

If you can give us a rough time-line as well I think that would help a lot. For example the usage after X number of hands imported.

Wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or tack on to this one (obv. I chose the latter. =)

I was having issues with 4-tabling that would seem to get worse over the session. To try to fix this, I started running off a clean boot and shut down absolutely everything but the Full Tilt client and PT3. That didn't seem to help, tried doing some "renice -20 [pid]" to make sure FT and PT3 were first in queue for resources. Still no luck.

Today I started looking at mem usage and PT3 seems to have a leak.

It's probably clear but this is over a span of 0-46 minutes.

Not sure what the heck is going on but the memory usage, even when starting, is huge and just goes downhill from there, causing me to have to shut down PT3 and restart every 30 minutes).

Any thoughts on what's going on with this?

OS: OS X 10.6.4
Proc: 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Mem: 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
PT3: v3.07.6

same here, PT 3.10 using more than 1 GB of memory. It doesn't seem to depend on no. of tables, just on the time it is running.

From my discussions with the development team it seems that MacOS doesn't clean up memory which is no longer used as quickly as Windows does, but I will make sure Tarix sees your post.

Can you be more specific? I do not see this problem after running 1 FTP 6-max NL table for 1 hour.

Hi,

PT starts with 40 MB and uses 400 MB after an hour 4-tabling. I usually keep it running between sessions to do some analysis, replaying hands and such. After the second or third session it uses more than 1 GB. In these 3 sessions I probably played on 12 to 16 different tables. Perhaps it actually is the number of tables...
