Connect to database from another computer

Postby PellePotatis » Sun Feb 06, 2011 2:24 pm

I have a laptop and i would want to use the same database as i do with my desktop computer. I'm quite sure I have read a thread about a way to do it some time ago but I can't find it now.

The way as i remember it was that there was some way to connect remotely to the database. (They are usually not on the same network)

Or is there some other way to sync the databases automatically without the computers being on the same network?

Thank you in advance

There's currently no way to sync the databases in an automated fashion, and performance testing has shown some non-trivial delays in HUD display due to network latency - you can use your database remotely if you would like, just expect things to be slow at times. You'll want to follow this tutorial but allow access from the IP addresses where your other computer will be located, and then you'll need to connect to your more stable computer via IP address. The computer that houses the databases will need to remain on as well, of course.
