Mac: PokerStars/PT leads to memory dropping from 2GB to 75mb

Postby HondaKid » Sun Dec 18, 2011 12:49 am

I have been having issues for nearly a month now, back and forth with PS techs regarding a memory issue I am having. Before starting PS and PT my free memory is about 2GB, after four marches it can drop to 75mb and as low as 8mb. Restarting PS frees the memory back to around 2GB and I am in a leaky boat for the next few matches. This is not good as I have had to make some really donk moves as the memory was nearly out and I had closed all applications except FINDER, PS and PT, it was freeze-up or shove at this point.

Now sometimes this happens with or without PT being open, it ALWAYS happens with PS open. So I am not sure it is a PT issue, PS has in more than one email pointed the finger at PT. They pointed me to this link in the last email:

Nevertheless, we did find that there are memory leak reports for PokerTracker which could be related to your problem. Please review:

Any solutions? Would moving to PT 4 Beta be a solution? I am willing to supply you with all screen shots (I have five) and files as needed.

I am using PT 3.11.6 Beta
I am using PS 5.225

Cheers.

Please follow the directions in the linked thread for requested information and give us as much detail about your system as possible. This isn't something we're seeing in general so we'll need to look at your system specifically, although if it happens when you do not run PT3 then I'm not sure what we'll be able to do.

OS: OS X 10.7.2
Proc: 2.40 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Mem: 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
PT3: v3.11.6 Beta

On my Activity Monitor, it does not show PokerStars or PokerTrack eating much memory overall. When I shut down the lone open table, memory recovers to somewhat normal levels. Might this have something to do with my .xml file as it has had issues before (freezing screen)? PokerStars has asked for more screenshots, files and overall more than a vasectomy clinic in this matter.

I would submit a screenshot in this reply, but there appears no way of doing this. I ought to do a screenshot video with Screenium and show the process as I see it, I could upload it to my server.

Cheers.

Which xml file do you mean?
If you open a Support Ticket you can attach files.

Submitted Claim.

I had some xml file issues a few weeks ago, it is the file holding all the tagged information on players. Things like player colour, notes, etc.

Thanks - we'll get back to you via your ticket.
PT3 doesn't read that PokerStars file so that won't affect anything as far as PT3 is concerned.

It appears PS is in the process of tweaking their software as a result of my weeks of aggro. So we shall see in the next PS update.

From PS:

Good news!

Developers have identified the issue and no longer need any more details. They are working on a fix.

Thank you for your report! I've added 500 FPPs to your account as a good will gesture for your help!

PS back to their crappy tricks. Eating 1.60GB of memory with this latest release, after a couple of hours a shutdown of PS is the only way to get back to normal.

Version 5.959

Just an update.
