Installing PostgreSQL8.4 Issue

I currently have PostgreSQL8.3 and recently installed PT4. The How to Manual says that if 8.3 is installed, then PT4 will install without upgrading to Postgre8.4.

When trying to install version PostgreSQL8.4, it would not accept the password as outlined in the manual. Do I need to uninstall 8.3 first before upgrading to 8.4? Or is there another reason why its not working?

Please let me know if there is any other info needed to solve this problem.

Is there a particular reason you're looking to install PostgreSQL 8.4? PT4 will work with 8.3 as well as 8.4.

no particular reason. just thought i should have the latest version. is there very minimal benefit?

It's probably not worth the hassle to just go to 8.4. If you have a 64 bit machine going to 9.0 for 64 bit computers would provide a larger benefit but unless you're experiencing specific troubles . . . I wouldn't really mess with it.
