PokerStars bug

Postby ChrisD » Sat May 03, 2008 12:50 pm

Hey guys, hope all that work on PT3 is going well.. I'm looking to move over soon, just waiting for a few more PAHUD things to be worked out. :)

Anyhow, I found an interesting PokerStars bug. I'm not exactly sure what's causing it. It might be if pokertracker tries to read a file at the exact same second the stars process tries to write one? It's happened rarely (7 times over 50k hands), but a bug is a bug so... If you may recognize what's causing this, great.. if not, or if it definitely seems to be a stars thing, no worries at all. :)

The hand history file gets corrupted in two ways - the table name on the filename is corrupted, and the first two characters of the file are corrupted (the "P" and "o" from "PokerStars Game..." on the first line).

Example:
Filename: HH20080425 ¿.txt

I've never seen that before. Did you contact PokerStars since they create this file?

PokerStars is aware of this bug and are working on a fix to the software. It is apparently related to the implementation of support for alternate character sets to be used for foreign language support. Other symptoms include an occasional missing hand history and hand histories prior to a certain time disappearing from the instant hand history window.

I had an extensive exchange with Stars support on this, sending them client log files, etc.

On 4/11, support wrote:

"Hello Jimmy,

Thank you for your email and for allowing us to be of assistance.

Upon review of the logs and attempting to recreate this we believe we have
identified the source of the problem. The information has been forwarded to
our programmers who will be working diligently to resolve this issue. We do
hope to have a fix released as soon as possible.

Please be patient and an update will be released as soon as we have a fix
for this issue. You assistance in identifying this bug is very much
appreciated.

Regards,

Trent
PokerStars Support Team"

Cool. Good work, and I'm excited to install PT3. I'll give you guys another couple weeks to hammer out more bugs, but from what I've seen, it's lookin good.
