Mass Import of over 10k Tourneys not working....

Postby jmflu » Thu Jun 19, 2008 3:58 pm

I did the generic import and set my directory that has my entire stars history in it (about 10k tourneys, 700k hands)

and I let it run overnight and when I came back I have no idea the status of it but it appeared to only import about half of the tournaments in the directory. Is there a limit to how many it can hold? Should I break it up into multiple smaller directories?

Any tips on how to do this would be great.

actually looking now from my last attempt it appears that it only imported 2800 of the 10k.

edit: scratch that it had a filter on but now there is none and it still only imported 4800 of the 10k.

#1. You need to be using a PostgreSQL database to import this number of hands. Are you doing this?

#2. How many files are there? Are there a small number of files with a lot of hands in them or do the files contain just hands for each tournament? 1 file per tournament.

#3. 700,000 hands is probably going to take over 20 hours to import into PT2. Did you stop the process before this long?

1. My database type says 'access' I am assuming this is not the right kind. So do I just go to Utilities: Convert Database to change it?

Also, how long it take to convert my current DB that has about 5k tourneys (about 250k hands) so I know what I am getting in to.

2. They are exported files from PT3 so I believe that there are multiple tournaments in each file.

3. And re: the time no it definitely did not take that long, perhaps I closed it before it was done although when I checked it the next morning it was responsive and not in the 'frozen' state it seems to go into while importing, but perhaps this is an issue of my DB type?

You probably maxed out the db. Access can only hold about 200-250K hands. You will have to convert to PostgreSQL if you want all these hands in one database. The conversion will probably take a couple of hours. Then you'll have to do the import again so that it gets the hands that weren't imported before. Another option would be to just create a new Access db and convert that empty db to PostgreSQL and then just reimport ALL of the files again.

How long does the conversion process take?

(and thanks for the quick responses I appreciate it)
