can't restore DB

installed 8.2. Went into bin file opened pg_restore & dos screen just keeps flashing the cursor. Zip else. Just like 8.3. Now had to change port to xx31 instaed of xx32. Does that make a difference. Now how do I combine the 8.3 data w/the 8.2 data once it is restored?

Actually I figured out to add the xx31 port so it is now restoring that DB. So I've got that solved. Now is there anyway I can move date from 8.2 DB to 8.3 DB's. 8.2 was one massive DB while I've created numerous ones w/8.3.

when i restored it said it was storing it under ptpgsql1. I can't find it w/port of xx31. I see it w/port of xx32.

The DB at xx31 is not linked to PT. How do I link it?

Open the Utilities > PostgreSQL Settings window and add another entry pointing to port 5431.

been done awhile back. that's how it shows up as not linked to PT, which it says is down thru file/database names. But none of the DB's listed are port xx31.

So if you click the Add button on the File > Maintain Database Names window and pick "Select existing PostgreSQL Database" from the list in the last field it opens a window and doesn't show any databases for port 5431. If that's the case then none have been created for the version of PostgreSQL on that port. What version of PostgreSQL is on port 5431?

8.2. All the others are 8.3. in order for me to install 8.2 I had to pick another port

Believe me I've read through this post numerous times. You keep adding post after post before I get a chance to reply and it makes it difficult to understand what you are doing when you keep posting random findings instead of just editing your last post to give a detailed explanation of the situation at the moment.

port 5432 = PostgreSQL 8.3
port 5433 = PostgreSQL 8.2

Is that your setup??

Use the Start > Programs > PostgreSQL 8.3 > pgAdmin III window. It should show you all of the configurations you have setup on port 5431 and 5432. Connect to the db server on port 5431. Do you see the list of databases there? What database names are shown in this list?

Now do the same for port 5432 - what databases are listed for that port.
