I'm sorry for all the hassle, but I'm having troubles installing postgreSQL now :(

I end up here http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/downloa ... .2.3-1.zip, trying to download the same version as I had previously. It turns out all - or well, the thirty or so I tried, mirrors are dead.

I also downloaded a newer version - 8.3.6 or something similar, 8.3.x at least, and that one didn't seem to work at all. It gave me none of the familiar options during the install.

Ok, now I get "Unable to connect to the database. 101 - SQLSTATE = 08001. FATAL: database "PTPGSQL1" does not exist.

So I assume I need to tell PT about this database's existance somehow.

It should have been able to find that database, are you sure when you reinstalled that you pointed it to the new ../data folder that you created? Go to the File > Maintain Database Names window. Click the Add button. In the last field, choose "Select existing PostgreSQL database" from the list. Do you see the PTPGSQL1 database listed there? If so, select it then on the previous window, enter a new description, check the "Dflt" box and click OK to save the changes. Then close and reopen PT.

I'm pretty much 100% I did that, yes.

As for going to Maintain Database Names - there already is an SQL database there - defaulted.

I tried renaming it, closing the application and then restarting - still the same problem. Also, when I try to add a database, the list of SQL databases is empty.

If there are no databases listed then you must not have used the old data folder when you reinstalled because the database is completely empty. What is the folder name that you moved all of your data files to?

Really? I just have such a hard time imagining such a mistake...

I called the folder c:\PostgreSQL neu - which is funny as I'm not even German.

Anyway, is this not strange at all?

That there already was an SQL database, and that it was defaulted?

That entry is there from before, it doesn't mean the database still exists, in fact, since you get an error when you open PT and you get no databases listed when you try to add a new entry then something is wrong.

Uninstall and reinstall PostgreSQL. This time when you reinstall, make sure you select the data folder to be "c:\PostgreSQL neu\data".
