Uninstalled, re-installed, picked the neu directory (again) - problem persists.

Go to the Start menu and select Programs > PostgreSQL 8.2 > pgAdmin III

Right-click on the red X at the top left part of the window and select connect. Enter your p/w when prompted.

In the list of databases, what do you see there? There will be default databases called postgres, template0 and template1 but those are not PT databases.

I only see one database, called postgres.

It didn't work then, either you didn't select the right data folder or there were no databases to begin with.

Go to the "c:\PostgreSQL neu\data" folder.

1. Do you see a postmaster.opts and postmaster.pid file there? Do they have today's data on them?
2. What sub-folders are there exactly?
3. Do you see a "base" sub-folder. Click on it. What sub-folder names are under it?

1) Both files are there - they have yesterday's date (I haven't touched SQL or PT today)
2) base, global, pg_clog, pg_log, pg_multixact, pg_subtrans, pg_tblspc, pg_twophase, pg_xlog
3) Yes, they are called 1, 10818, 10819

Those are the 3 default databases, postgres, template0 and template1. If there are no other folders then there are no other databases. Now go back to your old data folder, I guess you said it was "C:\PostgreSQL_Data\data". Click on the "base" sub-folder. What folders are under that. Is it just those same 3 sub-folders? If it is, then you must not have been using that as the data folder as you had thought you were. If this is the case, go to the "C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.2\data\base" folder. What sub-folders do you see there?

It also has "16403" and "25061"

What does??? Which folder? ../PostgreSQL_Data/data/base or ../PostgreSQL/8.2/data/base??

That is, you said "if it is only the same 3 sub-folders, you need to..." etc. So, to be absolutely clear:

Those two subfolders appear in the postgresql_data/data/base directory.

If it's in the ../PostgreSQL_Data/data folder then you didn't copy that data folder to the new ../PostgreSQL neu folder as you said you did or the folders would be there too. You need to uninstall PostgreSQL, delete all the contents in the current ../PostgreSQL neu folder and then you need to copy the ../PostgreSQL_Data/data folder to the ../PostgeSQL neu folder. Then you need to make sure the ../PostgreSQL neu/data/base folder has those "16403" and "25061" sub-folders. Once you do that, reinstall PostgreSQL pointing the data folder to ../PostgreSQL neu/data and then you should see your database again.
