Slow operation

First, please accept my gratitude for this program and your excellent support. I know this latest "Full Tilt" upgrade was a nightmare.

Anyway, my pt2 has been very very slow for about a year.It's getting worse.
It started when my system crashed and it somehow damaged the postgres part of it. I have since been able to uninstall and reinstall the potgres part and recover my postgres data. However, the general operation (loadin and viewing the tourny and ring stats, and hand history operation, during tourney play especially is very slow as compared to "pre-crash". I have optimized many many times. I am hesitant to uninstall and reinstall pt2 without assurance from support that it will bee ok. If there is a procedure for doing this, could you please let me know. Should I un install postgres also and start new then restore my processed hand history? Are there any unusual stpes I need to take? (I had to do something unusual with the postgres reinstall.)

There is no need to uninstall PT. If it's slow it's viewing stats it's usually because you don't have any filters set so that it's having to retrieve the entire database each time you open the window. And if you have the stats window open while you are auto-importing, it's having to re-retrieve the entire database every time it refreshes that window after there is an import done.

You should use the date filters on the Preferences tab so that it limits what is getting retrieved. For example, every month, change the "Since a date" option to be the first day of the current month or something like that. You can even use the preferences at the bottom of the Preferences tab in the "When this window first opens" section to have it just retrieve the data from the current day. If you want to see more data later, you can remove the filters.

I do realize all of that, but I'm talking EXTREMELY SLOW. It's taking several minutes to retrieve stats for current month wether I am opening the stats with the preference pre- set to 08/01/2009, or by re setting the date preverence to a slightly older or more recent date. If I try "all dates" it takes 10-20 minutes for about 2 years worth.

15 Minutes to load 4982 Tourneys, 265,477 Hands "Auto Inport" not running. It also locks up the computer while loading the stats.

Also, the "Tourney Time" window is very slow and causes re-drawing of other (non pt2) windows to be slow and choppy.
I really believe the "crash" did something to PT2 because these "slow" problems began right after the "resurection".

The "Game Time" window appears to work normally.

If you feel then that the database is corrupted then you should trying using the Utilities > PostgreSQL Database Functions window to do a backup and then restore from the backup file. This will essentially force PostgreSQL to rebuild all the indexes. Then you should do a FULL vacuum/analyze after the restore.

That procedure cut the time down to 12 minutes, but, the same problems (slow and lock up) exist.

I'll be so glad when I can afford PT3.

Guess I'll just plug along.
