not recognizing my player name

Trying to put PT2 on a new computer. I have the latest version (2.17.04g) and after converting to postgreSQL, I imported my .backup file: however previous hands now only show in the 'General' tab when I select the first player in the player list on the left. List of players is only of the few hands that I had in the DB before attempting to restore via .backup.

I wanted to also mention that I am using the 8.3 version of the SQL database.
Also, PT is grindingly slow, despite a full analyze/vacuum.

Note that my old hands from the .backup are still attached to the original opponent username, even though there is another on the list ahead of him now.

If I uninstall/reinstall PT and attempt to restore from .backup without first entering any recent hands, might that help (all recent hands are on FT, so requesting the last month of HHs is no problem) ? Or is there another solution?

That error means either the backup file you used to restore the database is corrupted or you when you created/restored it you didn't wait for the DOS window that opens during that process to close on it's own therefore the backup/restore did not finish. I would recommend you attempt to backup the database again on the old PC, let the DOS window close on it's own, then copy the .backup file over to the new PC and try to restore it again.

Unfortunately, the old computer is dead :shock:

Is there another way to access the hands, or another solution?

Can't you access it at all? Are you able to pull any files off it's hard drive? If not, there is nothing else we can do.

I had to do an entire new reinstall of Vista on the old computer to even get it to boot.

Note that ALL my PT files, including the .backup and the 'processed hands' archives files are saved to an external drive, so I have access to that: surely there is a way to get to this data besides the .backup file?

Well, I found an even older computer that has my DB on it up to April 19th, 2009, so I backed that up on a flash drive, then created a new DB in PT on current computer and attempted a restore. However, nothing is showing in the new DB... I am starting to suspect that something is wrong with either my postgreSQL or PT on the new computer...

Suggestions?

After you restore the database, you need to go to the File > Maintain Database Names window, click the Add button and enter a description. In the last field you need to choose "Select existing PostgreSQL database" and then select the PostgreSQL database that you restored from that list.
