Unable to connect to database

Postby Ahriman » Thu Jun 05, 2008 4:51 am

Hello,

I have installed PostgreSQL Version 8.2.7 and the ODBC driver. If I want to start PT2 the following error message appears:

"Unable to connect to the database

999 - SQLSTATE = IM002

[Microsoft][ODBC Drive Manager] Der Datenquellname wurde nicht gefunden, und es wurde kein Standardtreiber angegeben"

If I want to convert a database the following message appears:

Many thanks for your help

Please translate this.

On the PostgreSQL Settings window, what value do you have selected in the "ODBC Entry To Use" field? It should be PostgreSQL Unicode.

yes the value is PostgreSQL Unicode

The translation is:

The data source name wasn't found and there is no standard driver choosen.

From the Start menu select Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC)

Click on the Drivers tab of the window that opens.

Do you see PostgreSQL Unicode in the list? If so, what is the version number?

Go to the Start > Settings > Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services window.

Find PostgreSQL 8.2 in the list. Does it say it's started? If not, try to start it. Does it give an error?

If it's running, go to the Start menu and select Programs > PostgreSQL 8.2. > pgAdmin III

On the window that opens, right-click the red X at the top left part of the window and select "Connect" from the popup menu.

Enter your password.

What happens? Does it give an error or do you see a list of databases?

"PostgreSQL Database Server 8.2" is started but there doesn't stand "Lokales System" which means "local system". Is that a problem?

If I click connect and enter my passwort I don't get an error message but there also isn't a list of databases but look on your own:

I don't know what is causing this.

Use the Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs window to uninstall 8.2.7 of PostgreSQL
Then delete the remnants of the c:\program files\postgresql\8.2\data folder.

From the Start menu select Run. Type COMMAND on the next window and hit OK to open a DOS window. Type:

net user postgres /delete

and hit ENTER. Then type EXIT to close the window.

Finally, install the latest version of PostgreSQL, v8.3, download it here:
http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/downloa ... .3.1-1.zip

Then do this extra step:
archives/PT2/viewtopic.php?t=24880

And then try it again.
