All-In vs Non-All-In opens and 3bets

Postby jackoneill » Mon Feb 06, 2012 2:59 pm

Hi,

I'm a HU SnG player, and there are two statistics that would be really helpful during endgame situations:

[*]How often an opponent is openjamming and how often he's making a normal minraise.
[*]How often an opponent is making an all-in 3bet vs. a non-all-in 3bet.

I already searched all the statistics that are available, but just couldn't find that.

When you're looking at open jamming - would you be looking at the the percentage out of the number of hands, or the percentage of open raises which were all-in, or the percentage of times they went allin when they had the opportunity to open (only SB hands), for example?

Well, the openjamming stat is mostly useful when reviewing someone's game that you played a lot against, like another reg - and you also filter for effective stack sizes - for instance betweeen 8 and 12bb.

Basically, if he openjams a lot but only minraises rarely, then you should call his openjams very light, but proceed carefully against his minraises - and if he minraises a lot, but only rarely openjams, then you can jam wider over his raises.

When doing this analysis, you already know often he's opening based on VPIP and PFR, so I think it would make sense to make this the percentage of times they went all-in when they opened.

For 3bets, this is mostly interesting between 20 and 25bb effective stacks when you try to figure out which hands he's making a non-all-in 3bet with.

Remember when you're looking at effective stack sizes preflop in PokerTracker it's based on the smallest stack size in the hand.

So if you are three handed in the BB with a stack of 10BBs, someone is in the SB with a stack of 15BBs, the button has a stack of 1BB and the button folds for database purposes you'll still see an effective stack size of 1BB for both you in the BB and your opponent in the SB.

OK, to make that as a custom stat you need a pair of columns like these:

cnt_p_first_raise_allin =
sum( if[ tourney_hand_player_statistics.flg_p_first_raise AND tourney_hand_player_statistics.enum_allin = 'P' AND lookup_actions_p.action = 'R', 1 , 0 ] )

cnt_p_first_raise =
sum( if[ tourney_hand_player_statistics.flg_p_first_raise, 1 , 0 ] )

..then you can add a stat with the expression:

(cnt_p_first_raise_allin / cnt_p_first_raise) * 100

This is the percentage of times the player made the first raise AND went all-in preflop AND their only action was a single raise (meaning that the all-in was their first action) out of the times they made the first raise.

The stat is attached:

First Raise Allin.zip
Extract the .pt4stat file from the .zip and import it to PT4 using File > Import Statistic.
